Writing a report: simple sentence, writing 20 facts,
Class discussion about a simple sentence …. How long is a simple sentence?
A Simple Sentence:
Eg: grasshoppers are green.
Grasshoppers are brown.
Grasshoppers can jump.
- A simple sentence is a short sentence.
Writing 20 facts
Where do you get your facts from?
Do you make something up?
Made up things are not facts, they are false. They are not things from Wikipedia.
- Everything in report writing has to be true.
What’s the last thing in a report?
It starts with what?
- I think grasshoppers are ……, and ending with a full stop
Your challenge today is to get the structure correct.
Start off with a simple sentence, listing your facts, then ending with I think …..

Class discussion about the book that was read.

Recount Writing: A special time with friends
- Talking about the writing plan
- What would the title be, using one word eg: friends
- Quick words to help with their writing, reminding students to use one word rather than using sentences, reminding them that this is to help them with their writing.
- Working with students on their brainstorm of words for their writing
- Number the ideas, from the most important
- Students should have at least 7 paragraphs
- Introduction should tell you who, where and what, straight away
- At the end is called the Summary or conclusion, it should have feelings and how you felt about it.
- Plan should be done in 10 minutes
- After this a self evaluation should be done, I enjoyed this piece of writing because: …..
- Will discuss with the students when teacher is marking it.
Encouraging students to use their imagination, reminded them that it is good to write about something that they have already done, because it is prior knowledge.
Teacher reminding students that she is the audience, and that she is looking forward to reading them.
Teacher roving around, checking that the students are doing their planning, using one word.
